In Florida's craft beer scene, few breweries have traditions as sought after and anticipated as the holiday village at 3 Daughters Brewing in St. Pete. Now encompassing 13 tables and over 300 individual houses, this is set up and maintained by Bruce Harting, military vet and grandfather to the eponymous 3 daughters. Since his son and daughter-in-law own the brewery, he has been asked to set up this rapidly growing village every year since they opened. North Miami Brewfest 2022 is in the books! This event, hosted by the Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism at Florida International University's Biscayne Bay campus, is now in it's 10th year. And if you didn't go, you missed a fantastic event. A ton of great beer, lots of incredible food, awesome seminars, and even a 360-degree camera I didn't try. Before the event started, we set up some space and had a few great conversations. Our first discussion was with Chaplin School Faculty Administrator Mohammad Qureshi and Fermentation Lab Technician Albert Rivera. We spoke about the growth of the Chaplin School and the North Miami Brewfest. We also spoke about FIU's own offerings at the event, including some of the best spent grain bread I've had. After that, just as the event really got started, I had a conversation with two Chaplin School alumni: Temple Street Eatery co-founder Alex Kuk and Cerveceria La Tropical head brewer Matthew Weintraub. It's amazing exactly how varied malt can really be. It's almost the unsung flavor workhorse of the brewing experience, and I never feel it gets the love it deserves. Enter Riverbend Malt House in Asheville, NC. Riverbend has been producing fantastic standard and custom malt blends for brewers for years. To give us the details, we spoke to Florida Territory Sales Manager, Tyler Adams. Tyler's job is to spread the word of Riverbend around the sunshine state, and he gave us the full rundown of malting in general and Riverbend in particular. We even spoke about some of the fun collaborations he's been doing with Florida breweries.

I am a big fan of regional ale trails--especially when they have the support of local tourism boards. The Treasure Coast Wine and Ale Trail is one such example, and is fully supported by Indian River, Martin, and St. Lucie counties. That support extends to the Treasure Coast Wine and Ale Trail Festival coming up on Nov. 19th. It will be on the grounds of Trail founder, Summer Crush Winery, located in Ft. Pierce. Florida's Craft Beer industry began on Feb. 15th, 1897 with the opening of the Florida Brewery in Ybor City, Tampa. Until it's closure in the 1960's, the Florida Brewery supplied beer, namely La Tropical, to the vibrant Ybor community. After the building fell into ruin, it was obtained by and is now the home of law firm, Swope Rodante. We are (or were) live at Oktoberfest at the American German Club of the Palm Beaches! Decades long, this event is as popular as ever featuring authentic German beers, food, shopping, rides for the kids, and so much more. We started back with our friend Jay Vollstedt as he gave us a fantastic tour of the American German Club's richly detailed clubhouse. We also talked about how this year's Oktoberfest is going (very well) along with some of the other events coming to the Club. Welcome to Part 2 of our agave spirit exploration! After attending Mezcal Lauderdale a few months ago, we are doing a deep dive of Mexican agave spirits (that aren't tequila) that we not only sampled at the event, but are also available for YOU to try here in Florida. On the last episode, we discovered the difference between tequila and mezcal. Now, we're going to find out the difference between mezcal and bacanora with Vinateros Bacanora. They are imported into the US through Jacksonville-based Gigglewater Imports and co-owner, Chris Allison. He'll give us the rundown on bacanora and Vinateros, along with why Florida is such a great place to import spirits. From there, we finish up with Borderland Spirits and owner Michael Hurley. Yes, today we Mexico! The first Mezcal Lauderdale event was held at Le Meridien Dania Beach in May, organized by the same team behind the awesome yearly FemAle Brew Fest. This event brought mezcal (and more) producers and distributors from around Mexico to sample, discuss, and celebrate! Collaborations are a way of life in the craft beer industry. Whether with other brewers, celebrities, or charitable organizations, it's not hard to find a local brewery with a collaboration on tap. To celebrate their one year anniversary, Dogfish Head Miami decided to brew a collaboration as well! The brewery they chose was much-lauded Athens, GA-based Creature Comforts brewing, bringing some amazing ingredients with them to brew a special collab beer due out in July. In the downtime, we spoke to Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione along with Creature Comforts CEO Chris Herron and COO Adam Beauchamp about this collaboration, the importance of collaborations in general, and more. First is Watchstander IPA from Jacksonville's Veterans United. This beer is brewed to support and raise awareness to The Fire Watch--a Florida organization created to end veteran suicide. Episode 37 is a big one, and we are all over the place today. We start in Tampa, West Tampa to be specific, at the relatively new Bay Cannon Brewing. It's the first brewery in a section of the city still relatively untouched by craft beer, and I discussed that pionnering with Adrienne Juaire, Marketing Manager and Joanna Reilly-Brown, Event Manager (on top of their day jobs, being moms, and kinda being incredible at everything they do). We discussed everything from creating the brand, to finding the location, to the beers on tap. In Florida's craft beer scene, few breweries have traditions as sought after and anticipated as the holiday village at 3 Daughters Brewing in St. Pete. Now encompassing 13 tables and over 300 individual houses, this is set up and maintained by Bruce Harting, military vet and grandfather to the eponymous 3 daughters. North Miami Brewfest 2022 is in the books! This event, hosted by the Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism at Florida International University's Biscayne Bay campus, is now in it's 10th year. And if you didn't go, you missed a fantastic event. A ton of great beer, lots of incredible food, awesome seminars, and even a 360-degree camera I didn't try. Before the event started, we set up some space and had a few great conversations. Our first discussion was with Chaplin School Faculty Administrator Mohammad Qureshi and Fermentation Lab Technician Albert Rivera. We spoke about the growth of the Chaplin School and the North Miami Brewfest. We also spoke about FIU's own offerings at the event, including some of the best spent grain bread I've had. It's amazing exactly how varied malt can really be. It's almost the unsung flavor workhorse of the brewing experience, and I never feel it gets the love it deserves. Enter Riverbend Malt House in Asheville, NC. Riverbend has been producing fantastic standard and custom malt blends for brewers for years. To give us the details, we spoke to Florida Territory Sales Manager, Tyler Adams. Florida's Craft Beer industry began on Feb. 15th, 1897 with the opening of the Florida Brewery in Ybor City, Tampa. Until it's closure in the 1960's, the Florida Brewery supplied beer, namely La Tropical, to the vibrant Ybor community. After the building fell into ruin, it was obtained by and is now the home of law firm, Swope Rodante. Decades long, this event is as popular as ever featuring authentic German beers, food, shopping, rides for the kids, and so much more. After attending Mezcal Lauderdale a few months ago, we are doing a deep dive of Mexican agave spirits (that aren't tequila) that we not only sampled at the event, but are also available for YOU to try here in Florida. On the last episode, we discovered the difference between tequila and mezcal. Now, we're going to find out the difference between mezcal and bacanora with Vinateros Bacanora. They are imported into the US through Jacksonville-based Gigglewater Imports and co-owner, Chris Allison. Collaborations are a way of life in the craft beer industry. Whether with other brewers, celebrities, or charitable organizations, it's not hard to find a local brewery with a collaboration on tap. To celebrate their one year anniversary, Dogfish Head Miami decided to brew a collaboration as well! The brewery they chose was much-lauded Athens, GA-based Creature Comforts brewing, bringing some amazing ingredients with them to brew a special collab beer due out in July. In the downtime, we spoke to Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione along with Creature Comforts CEO Chris Herron and COO Adam Beauchamp about this collaboration, the importance of collaborations in general, and more. Plus we chat with Creature Comforts about their recent collaborations with Run The Jewels and the newly released Dogfish Head Miami collaboration with former Miami Heat star Chris Bosh! Right Around the Corner Arcade Brewery is one of the smallest breweries in the Tampa/St. Pete area, but has one of the best brewery experiences. Episode 37 is a big one, and we are all over the place today. We start in Tampa, West Tampa to be specific, at the relatively new Bay Cannon Brewing. It's the first brewery in a section of the city still relatively untouched by craft beer, and I discussed that pionnering with Adrienne Juaire, Marketing Manager and Joanna Reilly-Brown, Event Manager (on top of their day jobs, being moms, and kinda being incredible at everything they do). We discussed everything from creating the brand, to finding the location, to the beers on tap.
